Is this the right size?

Where an approx. 18′ 11″ × 18′ 11″ sail fits.

Our largest standard sail. It shades most of a typical back patio, a full outdoor living set or a good share of a pool deck. It’s two widths of fabric joined by one seam. The corners carry real load at this size, so anchor into solid framing, masonry or engineered posts, and plan on two people and a ladder each to hang it.

For this sail, set four anchors in a square about 21′ 1″ apart — two on the house and two posts, or four posts — and check that both diagonals measure about 29′ 10″. Keep the low corner at least 7′ off the ground so people can walk under it, and slope the sail so rain runs off. Covers about 358 ft².

Is 18′ 11″ the fabric size or the post spacing?
This is a standard sail, so the size is the finished sail, measured D-ring to D-ring. Sizes are approximate, measured D-ring to D-ring; allow about 1″ either way. Your anchors sit farther out than the sail: it’s patterned for about 10″ of turnbuckle at each corner and stretches about 5% as you tension it. For this sail that means: set four anchors in a square about 21′ 1″ apart — two on the house and two posts, or four posts — and check that both diagonals measure about 29′ 10″. What is in the hardware kit?
Everything that connects the sail to your anchors: 4 × stainless steel turnbuckles (one per corner), 88 ft stainless steel perimeter cable (perimeter 75.7 ft + 15%), 2 × stainless steel cable clamps. The cable is cut long so you have enough to pull it through the hem pocket, wrap it at the corner and clamp it off. Wall pad eyes and posts are not included — see hardware and structure kits.
Should a four-corner sail be twisted?
Yes. Set two opposite corners higher than the other two — a couple of feet or more — so the fabric forms a saddle shape (a hypar). It stiffens the sail, sheds rain and handles wind better than hanging it flat. A flat four-corner sail flaps and can pond water.
Why this size?
They’re the largest sizes that cut from a 3.0 m (118″) wide roll of Commercial 95 with little waste. Every edge takes a 0.5″ hem plus a 2.5″ cable pocket (3″ per edge), and a seam takes 2.5″. The small square, the small equilateral triangle and both rectangles are a single width of fabric with no seam; the large square and the large equilateral triangle are two widths joined by one seam. This one is two widths with one seam. Need a different size? A custom sail is made to any size.
What does the warranty cover?
Every standard sail carries a limited 90-day warranty on our workmanship — seams, hems and the welded D-ring corners — starting on the date it’s delivered or picked up. The Commercial 95 fabric also carries GALE Pacific’s 10-year UV degradation warranty. Damage from wind or storms beyond the sail’s limits, over-tensioning, weak anchors or improper installation isn’t covered. Full terms: Terms of Service.
How long until it ships?
Each sail is cut and sewn to order in Phoenix in the color you pick. Production takes 7–10 business days once material arrives in our shop, then it ships FedEx Ground — the cart shows the exact shipping price and transit time for your address. Need it sooner? Should I take the sail down in a storm?
Yes. Shade sails are not rated for monsoon winds. Loosen the turnbuckles and take the sail down when a storm warning is issued, and before you leave for a long trip in monsoon season.
