Visiting the shop
Where are you located?
Our shop is at 4970 N 7th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013. Customers come to us from across the Valley, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa.
What are your hours?
Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. We're closed on weekends. Calls, texts and emails that come in after hours are answered the next business day.
Do I need an appointment to drop off or pick up?
No. Walk-ins are welcome any time during business hours, both for drop-offs and pickups. If you're bringing something large, like a sectional, a boat or a vehicle, a quick call or text first helps us have room and a hand ready.
How do I reach you?
Call (480) 399-7516, text photos to (480) 399-7516, email info@americanupholstery.us, or use our quote form. Texting is often the fastest way to get a project started.
Quotes and estimates
How do I get a quote?
Quotes are free. The quickest way is to text a few photos to (480) 399-7516. You can also fill out our quote form or bring the piece in during business hours. For shade sails and some product lines you can price your project online with our quote tools.
What photos should I send?
- The whole piece from the front, side and back.
- A tape measure in the shot showing the overall size (width, depth and height).
- Close-ups of any tears, worn spots, or damage.
- Cushions on and off, if it has them.
Also tell us roughly what you have in mind: same look or a new fabric, and whether you need pickup or delivery.
How long is a quote good for?
Estimates are valid for 30 days.
Can the price change after I approve it?
Only if we find something that couldn't be seen before we took the piece apart, like a broken frame, bad springs, or water damage. If that happens we stop, contact you with an updated estimate, and continue only with your approval.
What isn't included in a quote?
Unless the estimate says so in writing, it doesn't include pickup, delivery, storage, installation, or changes you request after work begins.
Payment
When do I pay?
Payment in full is due before work begins. That's when we order your materials, so your place in the schedule starts with your payment. Commercial customers with an established history may be offered other terms by written agreement.
What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, check, or credit card. You can pay in the shop, or we can text or email you a secure link to pay by card.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Because every job is custom, payments are non-refundable once work has begun or materials have been ordered. If you cancel before that, contact us right away. A partial refund may be possible, minus any special-order materials. Full details are in our Terms of Service.
Do you charge sales tax?
Yes, unless you give us a valid exemption certificate before we invoice.
Turnaround
How long will my project take?
Most jobs are ready 7 to 10 business days after the materials arrive at our shop. If you supply your own fabric, or no new material is needed, it's 7 to 10 business days from the day you pay. Large, multi-piece and commercial projects are scheduled individually, and we'll give you a date up front.
How can I check on my project?
Use our project status page: enter the mobile number and invoice number on your order to see where it stands and when it's expected to be ready. You can also text (480) 399-7516 any time.
How will I know when it's done?
We'll text you at the number you gave us as soon as your project is ready.
Fabric and materials
Can I see fabric samples?
Yes, either way works. Come in during business hours to browse our sample books, or tell us what you're looking for and we'll text or email you options.
Can I bring my own fabric?
Yes. We'll tell you how much to buy. We aren't responsible for flaws in customer-supplied material, and if more is needed, work may pause until you bring it. Labor pricing for customer-supplied material can differ from jobs where we supply the material.
Will the new fabric exactly match the sample or my other furniture?
Very close, but not always exact. Fabric, vinyl and leather are made in batches (dye lots), so a new bolt can differ slightly from a swatch, a past order, or pieces you already own. Screen colors are approximate too. If a perfect match matters, ask to see the actual material before we cut.
What should I know about leather?
Leather is a natural material. Scars, grain changes, wrinkles and color variation are normal and part of its character, not defects.
What fabric should I use outdoors or in a busy business?
Use materials rated for the job: outdoor-rated, UV-resistant fabrics for patios and boats, and commercial-grade materials for restaurants, offices and venues. We'll point you to the right ones. If you choose a material we've advised against, those issues aren't covered by our warranty.
What we do and don't take on
What do you work on?
Home furniture, automobiles, boats, RVs, restaurant and commercial seating, cinema seats, outdoor cushions, awnings and shade sails. Our custom cushions, seat covers, boat covers and mats are also built here and shipped nationwide.
Can you patch a tear in my vinyl?
We don't patch or spot-repair torn vinyl. A patch rarely holds up or matches, because use and body oils change vinyl's color over time. Instead we recover the whole cushion or panel in new material so it looks right and lasts.
Do you fix recliner mechanisms, motors, or vehicle electronics?
No. We don't do mechanical, electrical or structural repairs, such as recliner motors, power seats, vehicle wiring, airbags or seat belts. We handle the upholstery around them.
Do you install shade sails at homes?
Our focus is building custom shade sails and hardware kits. For homes, installation is quoted only as an optional add-on, and many homeowners install their sails themselves or with their own contractor. Our installation guide walks through it. For commercial shade projects, contact us for a quote.
Pickup, delivery and storage
Do you pick up and deliver?
Yes, anywhere in the greater Phoenix metro area, for a fee per trip. Deliveries are scheduled once the balance is paid. Someone 18 or older needs to be there, and the item should be emptied and ready to move with a clear path.
How long can I leave my finished item at the shop?
Please pick up within 7 days of our ready notice. After that, storage is $15 per day for standard items. Large items, like vehicles, boats and oversized sofas, have 3 business days, then $25 per day. Items not picked up within 30 days are considered abandoned.
Should I empty my furniture or vehicle first?
Yes. Please remove valuables, documents, garage remotes and toll transponders before drop-off. We aren't responsible for items left in cushions, compartments, vehicles or boats.
Warranty
Is my project guaranteed?
Our workmanship (stitching, seams, and the upholstery work we did) is warrantied for 90 days from pickup, delivery or installation. Materials like fabric, foam, leather and hardware carry their manufacturers' warranties, and we'll help you file a claim with the maker if a material fails.
What isn't covered?
Normal wear and tear, pets, accidents, sun and weather damage, customer-supplied materials, and materials chosen against our advice. Foam naturally softens and settles with use. The full warranty is in our Terms of Service.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Let us know in writing (email info@americanupholstery.us or text (480) 399-7516) within the 90 days, with photos, and give us a chance to inspect it.
Texting us
Can I text you?
Yes. Text (480) 399-7516 any time, and include photos of your project. We reply during business hours. Reply STOP to stop texts or HELP for help. See our Text Message Terms.
