Common questions

Questions about this sail.

Is 12′ the fabric size or the post spacing?
Sizes are measured D-ring to D-ring on the finished sail. Leave room for the turnbuckles and tension: set your anchors about 10% farther apart than each side (at least 12″ at every corner). For this sail that means wall anchors roughly 13′ apart and the post about 13′ out from the wall corner. The planning guide walks through it.
What is in the hardware kit?
Everything that connects the sail to your anchors: 3 × stainless steel turnbuckles (one per corner), 48 ft stainless steel perimeter cable (perimeter 41 ft + 15%), 2 × stainless steel cable clamps. The cable is cut long so you have enough to pull it through the hem pocket, wrap it at the corner and clamp it off. Wall pad eyes and posts are not included — see hardware and structure kits.
Why is a triangle sail flat?
Three points always make a flat plane, so a triangle can’t twist the way a four-corner sail can. Set one corner lower than the other two so rain runs off and the sail doesn’t pond. If you want the sculpted, twisted look, choose a square or custom four-corner sail.
What does the warranty cover?
Every standard sail carries a limited 90-day warranty on our workmanship — seams, hems and the welded D-ring corners — starting on the date it’s delivered or picked up. The Commercial 95 fabric also carries GALE Pacific’s 10-year UV degradation warranty. Damage from wind or storms beyond the sail’s limits, over-tensioning, weak anchors or improper installation isn’t covered. Full terms: Terms of Service.
How long until it ships?
Each sail is cut and sewn to order in Phoenix in the color you pick. We email your ship date with your order confirmation.
Should I take the sail down in a storm?
Yes. Shade sails are not rated for monsoon winds. Loosen the turnbuckles and take the sail down when a storm warning is issued, and before you leave for a long trip in monsoon season.

Not quite the right size?

A custom sail is cut to your exact anchor points and usually tensions better than forcing a standard size to fit.
