Custom shade sails · 3 to 6 corners

Custom shade sails, made to your size.

Give us the finished size you want, or measure your attachment points and we’ll pattern the sail to stretch into them. The design tool works out the sail, the anchor spacing and the hardware kit and prices it on the spot: add it to your cart and check out, no quote needed. Sewn in our Phoenix shop.

Design your custom sail.

Pick the number of connection points on the drawing, type your measurements on it in feet (decimals are fine, 12.5), then tap each corner to set its height and hardware. Your price updates as you go; when it looks right, add it to your cart and check out like any standard sail. Looking for a ready-made size? See our eight standard sails.

1 Measure attachment point to attachment point

How many connection points?

Type the lengths right on the drawing, on each edge and diagonal; the sail redraws to your numbers. Then tap each corner letter (or its pole) to set that connection point: its height, the hardware (turnbuckle, block & tackle, direct or none), any lead line, and what it attaches to. A tensioner takes about 10″, a direct connect 2″; every custom sail gets Pro-Rig style corners (sandwich brackets by special request). Compare hardware.

What goes into every custom sail

Details that make it last.

01

Patterned from real geometry

Sides and diagonals let us plot your exact shape — including out-of-square corners and uneven post heights.

02

Catenary edges

Curved edges tension evenly, shed load to the corners, and give that crisp, sculpted line.

03

Reinforced corners

Multiple layers of fabric, 316 stainless corner rings and UV-stable PTFE thread at every corner.

04

Stainless perimeter cable

316 stainless wire rope sewn into the edge pockets carries the load around the sail.

Most customers order straight from the design tool above. If you want installation, new posts, a commercial structure or a second look at your measurements, send it here: your design-tool numbers are attached automatically. Add photos of the space and where each corner will anchor, and we’ll reply within one business day.

Tips for a fast, accurate quote
  • Label corners A, B, C… in the same order you measured.
  • Note which corners are on a wall, fascia, existing post or new post.
  • Give the approximate height of each anchor point.
  • A wide photo from each side of the space is worth a lot.

Wide shots showing the whole area and where corners could attach help us quote accurately. Photos are resized on your device before upload.

Common questions

Custom sail FAQ.

Finished dimensions or fit to my attachment points — what’s the difference?
The design tool assumes you’re giving us attachment points: you measure between the posts, walls or brackets, and we pull each corner in for its hardware and shrink the sail so it stretches tight into that space. If you check Finished dimensions, we build the finished sail to your numbers within about 1″ per side, with no stretch allowance and every corner a direct connect; the tool shows where the anchors go. Either way we check the geometry before anything is cut.
How much room does the hardware need?
We pull each corner in from its attachment point by the length of the hardware — about 10″ for a turnbuckle or block and tackle, 2″ for a direct connect — then make the sail 5% smaller so it stretches tight, and cut each edge with a curve about 5% of its length deep. The design tool runs that rule in both directions: from your attachment points to the finished sail, or from a finished size to where your anchors go. A 16′ finished square, for example, wants anchors about 18′ apart. Same rule as our planning guide.
How do I measure for a custom shade sail?
Measure straight-line distances between your fixing points (post to post, bracket to bracket), going around the shape: A–B, B–C and so on. For four or more corners, also measure the diagonals and the height of each attachment point so we can lock in the exact geometry and check the numbers. When you choose “fit to my attachment points,” we deduct for hardware and tension when we pattern the sail. Field dimensions guide.
Why are shade sail edges curved?
A tensioned sail pulls into a curve. Cutting each edge with a built-in curve — about 5% of the side’s length deep at the middle — lets the fabric tension evenly from corner to corner — no flapping, minimal wrinkles, and less stress on the corners.
What is the largest sail you can make?
Residential custom sails commonly run up to about 30–40 feet on a side; beyond that, larger spans are typically designed as engineered commercial structures with heavier fabric, cable and footings. Tell us the space and we’ll recommend the right approach.
Can I install a custom sail myself?
Yes — we sell the complete manufactured system (sail, any steel extensions, stainless hardware and tensioners) ready to install, with a hardware layout sheet. If you or your own installer put it up, installation and the structural capacity of what it attaches to are your responsibility; a sail puts significant load on every corner, especially in monsoon winds. We strongly recommend confirming what’s inside any column or wall you attach to and using a licensed contractor. Our warranty covers the workmanship of what we make, not installation by others or damage caused by it.
Can I order a custom sail online without a quote?
Yes. The design tool prices your custom sail as you enter it: the sail by the area between your attachment points, the corners and the hardware kit, item by item. When the drawing and the price look right, press Add to cart and check out with a card, the same as a standard sail. No quote, no waiting for a callback.
Is the price in the design tool what I pay?
Yes, for what’s in the design: the sail, its corners and the hardware kit if you include it. Shipping (live FedEx Ground price for your address, or free pickup in Phoenix) and Arizona sales tax are added at checkout. Posts, footings and installation aren’t part of an online order.
Why does a four-corner sail need both diagonals?
Four sides don’t fix a four-corner shape: the same sides can lean into many different shapes. The A–C diagonal locks the shape and B–D double-checks it. The tool won’t let you order until B–D agrees with the rest (within about 9″), so a mis-measured side is caught before we cut. If your corners are at different heights, enter each connection height: a twisted sail changes B–D.
What if I made a mistake in my measurements?
Every design is checked by our pattern maker before cutting. If something doesn’t add up, we contact you before we cut anything. Once your sail is cut, it’s made to your numbers, so measure twice: the field dimensions guide shows how.
How long does a custom sail take?
The same as a standard sail: production takes 7–10 business days once material arrives in our shop, then it ships FedEx Ground (or you pick it up in Phoenix). Need it sooner? Contact us to expedite.
